Experience the Magic of Black Women

Join us on a transformative journey to celebrate the brilliance, resilience, and remarkable contributions of Black women who continue to shape history and inspire change.

Dreamland Theater

Highlighting Loula Williams – Loula Williams defied the odds of traditional gender roles in using her teaching earnings to open the Williams Confectionery in 1909 and the Dreamland Theatre in 1914, located in Tulsa, OK —without her husband. Loula’s efforts paved the way for women entrepreneurs to start businesses that still serve as entertainment and fulfillment for black communities today. The Confectionery and Theatre continue to serve as a proven example that black women can create something new at their own will and impact the community.

Confectionery - Playground for Black Girls

As most black girls and women experience their first “feedback.” of one’s identity on the Playground, this is an opportunity to go back and rewrite history. Whether it’s affirmation and uplifting words or jokes and isolation, this Playground allows black girls and women to embody our childhood experiences and write the narrative on how to interact with each other. As a playground, this exhibit provides a space of exploration to build the standard of how Black women will “play” together in future settings (work, school, networks, church, etc.).

Beauty Exhibit

From Fashion Fair to Fenty, Black women have celebrated the evolution of their beauty over the decades. The Beauty Exhibit embraces the diverse facets of Black beauty, the spoken and unspoken standards of beauty, and how our perception of beauty impacts the fullness of life for each black woman. We are highlighting the Fashion Fair that was created by Eunice Johnson was the first cosmetic brand for darker skin tones and new affirmed and enhanced Black beauty.
